1st AC anyone? Bueller?

We are one day out from filming our little passion project --  yay! We've had a lot of obstacles in our way but we are making it through. Gotta love the last minute scramble.

Just today, we found out our 1st AC on our little passion project got another higher paying gig and has to jump on it for a few days. We are looking for a last minute replacement to work this weekend and 2 days next week. I'm sure we will find him or her but it's always a shock to the system when those jolts like that happen in the final hour.

For me, the day is filled with actor deals and paperwork for payroll and vendors and crunching the numbers as we have to pay for all the items we spent weeks finding and negotiating.

It always amazes me to see a full bank account depleted in only a few days and sometimes hours!

Well, back to the grind for me. Excited to be on set tomorrow!

we had this problem with ADs - who turned out to be really hard to find (good) replacements for. :(
Good luck!

How do you deal with people jumping onto higher paid gigs? I always find it so frustrating. Because of course, in many ways, for a director and occasionally a producer, it's a real passion project, it really isn't the money. It's just frustrating when trusted crew jump ship.

When crew jump ship, you just have to be prepared with back ups through referrals from other crew and put an ad on Craigslist immediately. Responses are almost immediate from Craigslist ads -- though they often get flagged for removal quickly so you may have to repost a couple of times. It can be a gamble to hire off Craigslist but if a resume looks decent, give a reference a call and take the chance if you are desperate. There's really no magic pill to dealing with crew who jump ship. It's just the reality of making a film with little money, I'm afraid.
