Sundance: High School All Over Again

I can't help but compare the Sundance Film Festival to high school.

POPULAR KIDS = DRAMATIC COMPETITION
COOL KIDS = PREMIERES
SERIOUS KIDS = DOCUMENTARY COMPETITION
FRESHMAN = SPECTRUM
GEEKY KIDS = NEW FRONTIER
STONERS = PARK CITY AT MIDNIGHT
CHEERLEADERS = AGENTS, MANAGERS, PUBLICISTS
ATHLETES = FILMS THAT SELL
HOMECOMING KING AND QUEEN = OPENING AND CLOSING NIGHT FILMS
PROM KING AND QUEEN = GRAND JURY PRIZE WINNERS
YEAR BOOK COMMITTEE & SCHOOL PAPER = JOURNALISTS & CRITICS
ASSEMBLY = PANELS
TEACHERS = PROGRAMMERS
PRINCIPAL = GEOFF GILMORE
SCHOOL BOARD PRESIDENT = ROBERT REDFORD
SCHOOL BOARD = JUDGES
OUTCASTS AND REJECTS = THE ONES WHO DIDN'T GET IN

Sundance has you feeling you are under that high school microscope again. You experience those same dreams of what the future will hold, days of sheer unadulterated craziness, hard work, and being a slacker. It's freedom, high expectations, low expectations, confusion, focus, shyness, awkwardness, etc. Hopefully our adolescence trained us well. Just as in high school, find your group of friends who get you and want to support what you are doing. Forget trying to be something you're not and focus on who you want to be. Looking back, weren't the cool ones really the ones who had the most confidence and believed in themselves?

not really. the "cool kids" in my high school were really insecure with themselves, but they projected a fake image to the public.

yeah you're right about Sundance being like high school all over again... some film fetivals feel like that, and I hate it.
